About Manqube

Manqube is the puzzle design practice of Manish Rathod in Ahmedabad, India. The Designer Puzzles is its shop. Every puzzle here is designed, 3D printed, finished and tested by hand, and built only after you order it.

How it started

Manish bought his first Rubik’s Cube in 2017, at 45. He taught himself CAD and started designing his own mechanisms. He has now designed more than 150 twisty puzzles, and about 100 of them are listed in the Twisty Puzzle Museum as his original inventions.

Originals and reworkings

Some puzzles in this shop are Manqube originals. Others are Manish’s own handmade versions of concepts first invented by other designers, such as the ghost cube or mirror blocks. We say which is which, and credit the original designer where we know them.

Made by hand, one at a time

Each puzzle goes through about ten steps, from printing and inspecting every part to sanding, gluing, fitting stickers cut on a plotter, and a final turning test. See the full build process.

From workbench to production

Two of Manish’s designs, the Manish Hexacopter and the Manish Cubo-Copter Plus, are now mass-produced by Calvin’s Puzzle and sold internationally.

The book

Manish tells the story in One Turn at a Time: How a Rubik’s Cube at 45 Changed Everything, available on Amazon and Flipkart.

A genuinely touching memoir which just happens to be about twisty puzzles.
